The Silk Scarf Trend Is Back but Not the Way You Remember It

Silk scarves used to feel a bit typical/boring. You'd fold one up neat, tie it around your neck and there was the look. It worked but didn't give much room to do anything else with it.

I see them being used quite differently these days. Not just around the neck, but on bags, over caps, tied at the waist, even as tops. It doesn’t feel like a particular style any more.

That's what makes it interesting again. You don’t have to make it a “statement piece.” It’s more of a thing that you move around depending on the outfit and somehow it still makes everything a little bit more put together.

1. Bella Hadid’s Bag Scarf

Bella Hadid’s Bag Scarf

The easiest entry point appears to be Bella Hadid’s. She didn’t even wear the scarf, which is probably why it works so well. She tied it to her bag.

In that Parisian look the outfit was already strong. Leather jacket, leather trousers, in the same tone. The scarf added something without taking over the look. It just broke up the uniform feel a little.

This is best when your outfit feels complete but a little flat. Rather than adding another layer, you shift your focus to something smaller.

2. Hailey Bieber’s Scarf Over Cap

Hailey Bieber Scarf Over Cap

Hailey Bieber took something that already existed and made it feel new again.

The bonnet-style scarf tied under the chin has been around forever, but layering it over a baseball cap changes the entire vibe. It feels more casual, a bit unexpected and not overly styled.

The contrast is what makes it work. Sporty cap, softer scarf, slightly mixed together.

3. The Neckerchief (Marilyn NK Style)

The Neckerchief

This is probably the closest to the “old” way, but it has been toned down.

It’s worn looser, rather than folded and tied perfectly tight. A little undone, sometimes tucked into a blazer or layered with basics That’s what makes it feel more casual and everyday.

Marilyn NK styles it in a practical way. It adds warmth, but it also changes the look of something basic like a denim and a jacket.

4. Kylie Jenner’s Waist Wrap

Kylie Jenner Waist Wrap

Kylie's version is probably the most summery of them all.

She had a silk scarf tied around her waist over low rise pants. Not tight. Not exactly in place. It was more of a loose wrap or belt type detail.

What it does is, it breaks the outfit in the middle. Without it, it’s just a top and pants. It gives it a little more shape and movement.

It’s also one of those styling tricks that doesn’t involve a full outfit change. You add one bit and it shifts everything a little.

5. Hailey Bieber’s Scarf Top

Hailey Bieber Scarf Top

Now, this is where this trend gets real interesting: Hailey Bieber has been wearing silk scarves as actual tops. She doesn’t treat it as an accessory, she makes it the outfit.

It sits neatly across the chest, usually worn as a bandeau or tied at the back, keeping things minimal. No added layers, no overthinking. Just denim, tailored pants, shorts or something low rise and let the scarf do the work.

What makes her version unique is how easy it seems. It doesn’t have that stylized “look at me” feel. It just works in the outfit like it belongs.

6. Zoe Kravitz’s ’90s Headband

Zoe Kravitz 90s Headband

This is probably the easiest one to try.

Instead of folding it down, the scarf is worn more like a bandana, tied back and sitting flat against the head. It keeps the hair in place but still feels relaxed, not overly styled.

Zoe Kravitz paired it with a sharper outfit, which made the whole look feel a bit more intentional. But it doesn’t have to be styled that way. It works just as easily with basics, especially on days when you don’t want to think too much about your hair.

It’s one of those things you can throw on quickly and it still changes the overall look without doing much.

How to Choose the Right Silk Scarf

Not every scarf works the same way, which is where most people get stuck.

Size matters more than you think. Smaller squares are easier for neck ties and headbands. Larger ones work better for tops or waist styling.

Print also changes everything. If your outfits are mostly neutral, a printed scarf stands out more. If you already wear prints, something simpler might feel easier.

Fabric is probably the biggest difference. Softer silk drapes better and is easier to tie. Stiffer ones hold shape but can feel harder to style casually.

Silk Scarves in 2026

This trend works because it doesn’t feel like one thing.

You don’t have to wear it the same way every time. One day it’s on your bag, another day it’s around your waist, another day you don’t wear it at all.

If you’re unsure where to start, the bag or neck is easiest. From there, it gets more experimental.

And that’s kind of the point. It’s not about getting it perfect. It’s just about using one piece in a way that feels like you.
