On most days I just want my cheeks to look a little less flat without having to use five different things. But it usually ends up that way: blush first, then highlighter, and then trying to blend everything so it doesn't look weird on the skin. Some days I just don't have the time for all that, especially when I need to get ready quickly and still look alive.
That's why the whole idea of a "blushlighter" makes sense. You can get that flush and glow in one step instead of having to layer two different products. It's faster, a little less fussy, and to be honest, it feels more real for everyday makeup.
I used the r.e.m.mélange à trois blush & highlight stick, and it was pretty much what I expected. A cream stick that has blush and highlighter mixed together, so each swipe gives you both color and shine. The point is that no two applications look exactly the same. At first, this sounds like a gimmick, but once you use it, it makes things feel a little more natural and less "perfectly placed."
Satin
This is the one that you can wear right away. It has a warm pink color and a soft golden shimmer. The two colors work well together because they are balanced.
When you first swipe it, the texture is very creamy and almost like a balm, but it doesn't stay slippery. It sinks into the skin quickly, especially if you use your fingers. You can add more pigment to it. A light tap gives you a soft flush, but you can add more without it looking patchy.
The finish is a little dewy, but not too shiny. In natural light, it gives your skin a soft glow that looks like it's coming from your skin instead of sitting on top of it. It's a color you can wear without thinking too much about it, especially for quick, everyday makeup.
Spicy
This one is a little bolder, but once it's blended out, it's still surprisingly easy to wear. It has more depth than Satin because it is a darker terracotta color with a warm coppery glow.
The texture is the same creamy formula, but the pigment is stronger, so you need to be a little lighter with your first swipe. It goes well with fingers or a thick brush, and once it's spread out, it gives the face a nice warmth.
The finish is more radiant than soft. You can see the glow a little better, especially in the sun, but it doesn't look chunky or glittery. It just makes you look warm and a little sun-kissed. If you want your blush to stand out more without adding another highlighter on top, this one works great.
Petal
This one is in the middle. It has a nude-terracotta color with a gold sheen running through it. It's not as soft as Satin and not as bold as Spicy.
Same smooth texture, and it's easy to move around before it sets. The pigment is more forgiving, so you don't have to be very careful with it. It looks well blended after just a few taps.
What I liked most here is how subtle the glow feels. It doesn't stand out right away, but in natural light it gives your skin a soft glow that makes it look a little more awake. Good for days when you don't want your blush to be the main thing; just something to make your face look a little better.
How it Actually Applies
I tried this a few different ways, and it really does change depending on how you use it.
Using fingers is the easiest. Just tap onto the product and press it into your cheeks. This gives the most natural, skin-like finish and works best when you’re in a rush.
A brush gives you more control. It diffuses the color a bit more, so the result is softer and slightly less shiny. This is probably the best method if you’re layering it over foundation.
Applying directly from the stick gives the most pigment and glow, but you do have to blend quickly. It’s great if you want a stronger look, but I found myself reaching for this method less often for everyday use.
It layers well over light base makeup. Over heavier foundation, you just need to tap instead of swipe to avoid moving things underneath. It also builds without getting patchy, which is usually where cream products go wrong.
Who it Works For
This works best if you don’t want to overthink your makeup. It gives you that healthy glow without needing separate steps, so it’s great for quick, everyday looks. Beginners will probably find it easier too since you’re not figuring out placement for two products.
If you like minimal makeup, it fits right in. Just tap, blend, and you’re done. But you can still build it up or mix shades if you want a bit more dimension.
I didn’t expect to reach for it this much, but it’s simple, blends easily, and just makes getting ready faster.
